Since it is almost our 2nd year anniversary and Mayor Rody Duterte is tagged on the photo along with the TV5 peeps, I will post this.
At a press conference in Yellow Fin on August of 2003, Mayor Duterte asked, “who is getting married?”
The other journalist who were there pointed at me.
“Invite me, if not I will kill you,” the mayor in jest said.
“Really, make me as one of the sponsors,” he then earnestly added.
I don’t know what to feel. Since we were planning for a very simple wedding, I was apprehensive to invite him, but I was also happy that the mayor wanted to come.
On my wedding day, I did not expect the mayor to be there because I know that he is a very busy person. However, he came — and on a chopper nonetheless. He was very early and he even stayed until the end of the ceremony.
The mayor’s presence made me very happy. I am jus an ordinary person, yet he made the time to attend my wedding. He is true to his words. He is also very down to earth.
After several months, I bumped into him at SM Lanang.
He said, “Avanceña why haven’t I seen you for a while?”
I told him I underwent an operation.
He came near me and whispered, “What happened to you? If you need help just tell Bong.”
Yes, our mayor here in Davao City has a good heart.
