Bato: Having a drug-free Philippines might just make me decide to resign

Date:

Bato: Maybe a drug-free Philippines would make me decide toresign Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa told those calling for his resignation to ask the president to remove him from his post.

After House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez called for him to leave his position as the PNP chief, Dela Rosa responded saying having a job like his is not that easy.

“Akala ba nilanag-e-enjoy ako sa trabaho ko. Gusto nila ako mag-resign, sabihin nila saPresidente na paalisin ako,” Dela Rosa told reporters.

Alvarez urged the Dela Rosa to resign following the confession of SPO4 Roy Villegas, one of the police officers involved in the killing of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo.

According to him, it is not just an insult to the PNP but also an indication that the PNP chief has already lost the respect of his people knowing Jee was slain inside the PNP national headquarters.

Dela Rosa also stressed that having a drug-free Philippines might just make him decide to resign, but until then, he will continue doing his mission as the PNP chief.

“Habang meron pa kaming mission na gagawin tapusin munanamin itong war on drugs. Siguro kapag tapos na, ma-declare na natin nadrug-free ang buong Pilipinas pwede na ako mag-resign,” he said.

In a recent statement, Alvarez said, “he should immediately resign as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to savePresident Rodrigo Duterte from further embarrassment and restore respect to theOffice of the PNP Chief.”

Dela Rosa said it is cruel to ask him to resign after all the hardships he has to face while fulfilling his job.

“Grabe naman sila. How cruel of them to say na mag-resign ako. Wala na nga akong pahinga, wala nanga akong tulog but anyway we cannot satisfy everyone,” he said.

He then admitted that incident was a shortcoming of the police organization.

“Inaamin ko naman talaga na ‘yung nangyari na dito papinatay kapalpakan namin yan. Pulis yan e kagaguhan, kasindikatuhan ang ginawa. Sagot ko yan dahil ako ang chief PNP,” he said.

He said he does not want to leave Duterte hanging while the illegal drug trade is still wreaking havoc in the country. He also added that he can’t afford to leave the president behind and wants to finish the war on drugs despite the challenges.
