Jose Saguban, Cacao farmer in Davao, was recognized as one of the top 20 international Cocoa awardees in Paris, France last October 30,2019.

According to the report of Inquirer, “the International Cocoa Awards (ICA) is a prestigious global competition that recognizes the work of cocoa producers and the diversity of flavors around the world. Out of the 50 high-quality cocoa samples that enter the Cocoa of Excellence Programme, 20 receive the said award”.

Moreover, Jose Saguban came from the well-known cacao processor in Davao, Auro Chocolate.

Auro works with various cacao farmers in Davao like Mang Jose. The prominent Cacao firm recognized the efforts of Mang Jose in attributing to their success.

“When we found out he made it to the Top 50, we were already ecstatic so we decided to bring him to Paris to receive his award in person… Little did we know he would make it to the Top 20 best cacao beans in the world, we have no words,” Auro’s post in their social media page.

Further, the Bioversity International and Event International carried-out the 10th ICA. Based on the report of Inquirer, the said organizer explained that ICA is the only event in the world celebrating the work of producers and the full richness of cocoa.

Respectively, the Cacao farmer in Davao was selected among 55 countries with 223 samples.

“A technical committee conducts a blind sensory evaluation of the samples and selects the best 50. The top 20 samples receive the International Cocoa Award,” report stated.
