A laboratory that identifies chemical residue will soon to establish in order to improve the mango exports in Davao del Sur.
Moreover, the proposed construction is part of the preparation of the province in exporting mangoes in New Zealand.
“There are groups planning to sell their mangoes abroad, so the proposed laboratory will help them meet the standards that the international markets will set up,” Delia M. Ayano, Department of Trade and Industry director for Davao del Sur.
Respectively, Ayano mentioned that stakeholders are drafting the proposal.
The project may be at the planning stage but Ayano hoped that it will be realized to improve the mango industry in Davao del Sur. The New Zealand is also helping in drafting the proposal.
The point persons of the project are Vicente T. Lao, honorary consul of New Zealand in Mindanao and chair of the Mindanao Business Council.
Further, the regional mango council was initiated in November to discuss the improve crop production and best practices during the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
The mango council seeks to link other groups of mango growers in Mindanao.
‘The government, through MinDA, earlier signed a three-year co-investment project with the New Zealand Embassy and NZ G2G Partnerships Ltd. for mango exports,” report from Business Mirror said.
A feasibility study to set up quality assurance systems for fresh mango will be conducted to ensure compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
