Davao City Government Issues Public Advisory After Hackers Post Sexually Explicit Content on CTTMO’s Facebook Page

The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) became a victim of cyber-attack on Thursday, resulting in a series of sexually explicit posts on their Facebook page. The incident happened at around 1 a.m., and the local government immediately released a public advisory warning the public of the hack.

The CTTMO is currently working with concerned offices and agencies to regain control of their Facebook page as soon as possible. The public was advised to disregard any messages, links, or online posts shared by the hacked Facebook page.

As of the time hackers took over the CTTMO page, at least 10 sexually explicit videos featuring women were posted. This unfortunate event was a stark contrast to the CTTMO’s last official post on April 19, which was a notice for tricycle drivers and operators to secure or renew their permits or franchise.

This is not the first time that Facebook pages of government agencies have been hacked in the Philippines. In fact, these incidents are becoming more frequent in recent years. Just last year, the Philippine Army’s Facebook page was hacked and filled with posts containing false information.

It is not yet clear who is behind the recent attack on the CTTMO Facebook page. However, it is a reminder that cybersecurity is an essential aspect of any organization’s operations. With the increasing reliance on digital platforms, it is imperative to prioritize security measures to protect sensitive information and prevent cyber-attacks.

In response to the incident, the local government should prioritize training programs for their employees, especially those who handle social media accounts. It is essential to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to identify and respond to cyber-attacks quickly. Additionally, implementing stronger password policies, two-factor authentication, and regular security updates can help prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Furthermore, the public must also take responsibility for their online safety. Cybersecurity should not only be the concern of organizations but also of individuals. It is crucial to be vigilant in keeping personal information secure and to practice safe online behavior, such as avoiding suspicious links and messages.
