A power outage at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines caused flight delays on Monday morning. The power cut occurred at Terminal 3, which is used by Cebu Pacific, AirAsia Philippines, and several international airlines, at around 1:05 a.m.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said that the standby power is now supplying electricity to critical facilities, allowing computer systems of airlines and immigration to function partially and enable the processing of both inbound and outbound passengers. However, delayed flights are expected.
This is not the first time that a power outage has occurred at NAIA, as thousands were left stranded on New Year’s Day due to a similar issue. The airport’s poor reputation for being one of the worst airports in the world was also highlighted recently when the Manila International Airport Consortium announced a P100-billion proposal for the rehabilitation of NAIA.

MIAA’s operations personnel are providing assistance and answering inquiries about the power outage and flights. Additionally, its engineering team and personnel from power distributor MERALCO are investigating the power outage.
In a statement, MIAA apologized to air travelers for the inconvenience caused and promised further updates as they become available.
The power outage at NAIA is a reminder of the importance of maintaining critical infrastructure, especially in the travel industry. Airports are key transportation hubs, and any disruption can cause significant inconvenience for passengers and airlines alike. It is essential to have backup systems in place to ensure that operations can continue in the event of a power outage or other unexpected incidents.
