The fall didn’t stop him.
The family drama didn’t stop him.
And now, Carlos Yulo has completed the collection.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo delivered the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, ruling the men’s floor exercise final with 14.666 points. Kazakhstan’s Milad Karimi took silver with 14.600, while Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama won bronze with 14.566.

But perhaps the more interesting part of this story isn’t just the medal.

It’s who was standing on the same floor with him.

His younger brother, Karl Eldrew Yulo, also made the floor exercise final and finished seventh with 12.233 points. Just days earlier, the brothers competed together in the men’s team event, with Carlos calling it one of his most joyful experiences in gymnastics because he was able to represent the Philippines alongside his brother.

And yes, Carlos’ personal life has remained part of the public conversation.

His relationship with longtime girlfriend Chloe San Jose, his highly publicized family conflict, and his statement that his parents may not be invited to their future wedding all generated renewed online buzz this month. Carlos has said he wants their wedding, if it happens, to be centered on the couple and filled with love and joy. Chloe has also said she supports what Carlos is comfortable with.

But while the internet debated his family situation, another part of the story quietly continued:

Carlos remains close to his siblings.

Carlos, Karl Eldrew, and Elaiza Yulo have continued to share moments together, with Chloe also publicly describing her relationship with Carlos’ siblings as good.

For years, Carlos was also discussed in the context of the pressure surrounding being a family’s breadwinner. A 2024 discussion featuring psychologist Anna Tuazon specifically examined the cultural expectations placed on Carlos, including the pressure associated with supporting parents and younger siblings.

Now, at 26, the picture looks different.

A champion building his own life.

A boyfriend planning a future with Chloe.

A kuya competing beside his younger brother.

And today, an Asian Games champion.

Carlos Yulo has now won at the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Championships and Southeast Asian Games. The Asian Games gold was the missing piece.

And he got it with his brother watching from the same floor.

Maybe that is the part worth remembering.

Not every family story gets resolved the way people expect.

But sometimes, people still find a way to move forward.

Witnessing Carlos win the Philippines’ first Asian Games gold while his younger brother Eldrew competed beside him, how do you read this chapter of the Yulo story?

Karma, coincidence, or simply Carlos and Eldrew writing their own story?
