For many Filipinos, investing in the stock market can sound complicated. There is the broker, the account opening, the funding, the trading platform, and all those terms that can make a first-timer think, “Pwede pa ba ito sa akin?”

Digital platforms are changing that experience.
Through GStocks PH, fully verified GCash users can open a stock trading account with AB Capital Securities Inc. directly inside the GCash app, giving them access to more than 280 Philippine-listed companies and the ability to start investing with as little as ₱500, subject to the applicable stock price, board lot and trading requirements.
For someone who has always thought that the stock market was only for people with a lot of money or financial expertise, the process is becoming much more accessible.
And perhaps that is the bigger story.
From “Mahirap yan” to “Pwede pala”
Kahit challenging ang buhay, maraming bagay ngayon ang unti-unting nagiging mas accessible because of technology.
You can pay bills from your phone. Send money without visiting a bank. Run a small business through social media. And now, you can access the Philippine stock market through an app many Filipinos already use.
With GStocks PH, users don’t need to coordinate separately with a traditional broker just to get started. The brokerage account is opened through AB Capital Securities Inc. within the GCash app.
It doesn’t mean investing suddenly became easy or risk-free.
But the first step has become simpler.
How does GStocks PH work?
For eligible users, the process starts inside GCash.
A user needs to be:
18 years old or older
A fully verified GCash user
Using a Philippine SIM
With at least one active and valid government ID
From the GCash app, users can go to Invest → GStocks PH → AB Capital Securities Inc. and begin the application for a Basic Account.
Once the application is completed and approved, users can access their GStocks PH dashboard and fund their trading wallet.
GCash says the cash-in can reflect in the trading account in real time, and the Basic Account currently has a ₱50,000 cash-in limit. Full Account users have no top-up limit under the stated terms.
What can you actually buy?
GStocks PH provides access to more than 280 companies listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, according to GCash. That includes companies across different industries, giving investors an opportunity to become shareholders in businesses they may already encounter in everyday life.
Think about it.
You might use a company’s telecommunications service, eat at a restaurant operated by a listed company, shop at a major retailer, use a bank, or see a company’s products every week.
Through stock ownership, an investor can potentially become a small part-owner of a publicly listed company.
But there is an important distinction:
Buying a stock is not the same as buying an ordinary product.
The value of a stock can go up or down. Investors can earn from price appreciation or dividends when applicable, but they can also lose part or all of the money they invested.
That’s why accessibility should come with financial literacy.
You don’t need to start big
One of the things that can make stock investing intimidating is the assumption that you need tens or hundreds of thousands of pesos to begin.
GStocks PH says users can start investing with as little as ₱500, although the actual amount needed for a particular stock depends on its price and applicable board-lot requirements. That means the conversation can shift from:
“Kailangan mayaman muna ako bago ako makapag-invest.”
to:
“Pwede pala akong magsimula small, basta naiintindihan ko ang ginagawa ko.”
And that distinction matters.
Starting with ₱500 does not guarantee that it will grow. It simply lowers the amount needed to begin learning how the market works.
Filipinos are already moving toward digital investing
The growth isn’t happening only on GCash.
According to the Philippine Stock Exchange’s 2025 Stock Market Investor Profile, the number of stock market accounts reached 3.64 million in 2025, up 27.3% from 2.86 million in 2024.
Retail investors accounted for 3.61 million, or 99.2%, of all accounts.
Of those retail accounts, 3.22 million were held online through digital trading platforms and e-wallets, with online retail accounts growing 30.5% year-on-year.
The PSE has previously attributed much of the expansion in investor participation to digital platforms connecting investors to the exchange, including e-wallet-based investing.
So this isn’t simply about one new feature inside an e-wallet.
It reflects a larger change in how Filipinos are accessing the capital markets.
