Filipino Actors and Actresses Shine as Nominees for ‘Outstanding Asian Star’ at Seoul International Drama Awards

Numerous Filipino actors and actresses have been nominated for the prestigious ‘Outstanding Asian Star’ category at the 18th Seoul International Drama Awards (SDA), further solidifying their presence in the international entertainment scene.

The power couple Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, known as Kapamilya stars, received nominations for their remarkable performances in ABS-CBN’s hit series “2 Good 2 Be True.” This recognition showcases their talent and the popularity of the show among viewers.

Joining them as nominees in the category are Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, and Julie Ann San Jose, prominent figures from GMA Network’s critically acclaimed drama “Maria Clara at Ibarra.” These Kapuso stars have captivated audiences with their exceptional portrayals, contributing to the success of the series.

The Filipino nominees will compete against outstanding actors and actresses from South Korea, China, Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan, creating a vibrant and diverse pool of talent at the SDA.

Notable nominees from other countries include renowned South Korean stars Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-Kyo, Park Eun-bin, Lee Je-hoon, and Lim Yoona. China’s Dylan Wang, Thailand’s Nichkhun of 2PM, Japan’s Tsuyoshi Kusanagi and Kento Yamazaki, as well as Taiwan’s Vivian Sung, also made it to the list. The inclusion of these esteemed artists emphasizes the international appeal and recognition of Asian talent.

Organizers have revealed that the nominees will compete exclusively with other nominees from their respective countries, heightening the anticipation and excitement of the competition. The winner will be granted the opportunity to attend the highly anticipated awarding ceremony, adding prestige to their already remarkable achievements.

Fan votes will serve as the determining factor for the winners, with voting taking place through the dedicated app “Idol Champ.” Starting from June 15, fans will have the chance to support their favorite nominees and contribute to the outcome of the awards.

With a staggering 344 entries from 44 countries, including the Philippines, “2 Good 2 Be True” and “Maria Clara at Ibarra” showcase the country’s rich storytelling tradition and the talent of its artists on a global platform. The SDA serves as a celebration of the diversity and creativity present in the world of television dramas.

In the previous year, Star Magic artist Belle Mariano achieved a historic milestone as the first Filipino to receive the Outstanding Asian Star Prize. Her exceptional performance garnered recognition, and she was privileged to personally accept the award in South Korea, representing the Philippines with pride.

The 18th Seoul International Drama Awards is scheduled to take place on September 21 and will be broadcast live on South Korea’s KBS2TV. This highly anticipated event will bring together industry professionals, fans, and enthusiasts, celebrating the outstanding achievements in Asian television dramas.
