After the victory of Davao City Mayor and President-Elect Rodrigo R. Duterte in the recently concluded 2016 Philippine Election, Davao City, as his ‘Exhibit A’, has been the top search of Filipinos and Foreigners who would like to trace the track of the Mayor’s service outline.
During the campaign season, claims about Davao City as the world’s safest had been junked and called a ‘Myth’ by Duterte’s political opponents who are trying to turn him down.
However, in the recent result of Numbeo.com, one of the largest websites that utilizes user-generated data on cities and countries worldwide, Davao City ranked 5th in 2015’s World Safest City ranking. It recorded a crime index of 18.18 and a safety index of 81.82 making it safer than Espoo, Finland (81.16 safety index); Bergen, Norway (80.98); Heidelberg, Germany (80.78); Coimbra, Portugal (80.68); and Stuggart, Germany (80.53).
The question is how did Davao City reach such distinction?
