“If you know of any drug addicts go and kill them yourselves, as getting their parents to do it will be too painful!” The chilling words of Rodrigo Duterte the President of the Philippines. It seems as if his supporters -in and out of uniform – have been taking him by his word. The Philippines police chief told a Senate hearing today that more than 1,900 people have been killed since Duterte’s election in May – 750 of them in police operations, with the rest still under investigation.

Our Asia Correspondent, Jonathan Miller, reports from the Philippines capital, Manila, and the southern city of Davao, where Duterte cut his political teeth as mayor, on the president’s war on drugs.
