It’s not exactly what Barack Obama had in mind when he called for an Asia pivot. The red carpet rolled out for The Philippines’ firebrand president as Rodrigo Duterte embarks on a four-day state visit to China.
That explains in part why the firebrand former mayor of Davao’s refrained from crowing over a July. Since he took office, Duterte’s proved thin-skinned and trigger-happy in the name of his war on drugs.
