OCD-Bicol raises gale warning to fishers, small sea craft owners by Connie Calipay

LEGAZPI CITY — Fishermen and owners of small seacraft were warned against going out to the sea as a gale warning was raised over the waters of Bicol.

Office of Civil Defense Bicol regional office Director Claudio Yucot said the tail end of a cold front continues to bring heavy rains over the eastern section of southern Luzon, with impending high tide to reach its peak, prompting them to raise the gale warning.

Yucot said he asked the Philippine Coast Guard and village officials in coastal areas of the region to implement the necessary measures to prevent fishermen from going out to the sea as it is risky.

Yucot told local officials to continue finding and adopting measures to mitigate the effects of calamities, as he stressed the need to focus on preventing instead of responding to calamities.

Based on the situation report submitted by the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office, the number of vehicles and persons affected are: light cars, 202; trucks, 329; buses, 124; and passengers, 6636. (PNA)
