Senator Juan Edgardo Angara suggested that the Duterte administration should invest more in developing agriculture sector. This was stated last Thursday in order to obtain inclusive growth and ensure food security through additional investments for the said sector.

Accordingly, based on the report written by Business Mirror, Angara said that food stability for increasing population will not only be solved once the increase of investments happened, but also to more jobs and opportunities in agriculture sector.

On the top of that, Angara also determined that agrirevolution should be already enacted, aside from the developing infrastructures.

“It is significant to revolutionize agriculture, especially that it can revive the agriculture sector and also improve the welfare of the fishermen and farmers, which belong to highest incidence of poverty in the Philippine,” Angara said.

Further, the senator also imparted to develop the agriculture situation in the Philippines, along side with the Build, Build, Build Program which bolsters the infrastructure of the country.

“Where there’s Build, Build, Build, there should also be ‘grow, grow, grow’; ‘plant, plant, plant’ or even ‘fish, fish, fish.” Angara said.

Most importantly, Angara identified the contribution of the agriculture sector in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, it can be seen that the contribution of the sector seems to diminish over the years. “From the year 1998 to 2009, the sector accounted for 13 to 14 percent of the total GDP, but steadily declined to 10 percent in 2017”.

“By investing heavily in agriculture, the government would be able to make the country’s economic growth more inclusive or felt by a larger population, ” Angara said.
