In the Facebook page of Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary, Manny Piñol said that DA promotes the use of biodegradable materials, including bamboo straws.
His attention was caught by the public after he posted a photo with the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Steven Robinson sipping coconut water using plastic straws.
Moreover, the secretary apologize to the public and ensures the environmental advocates that DA will introduce the use of bamboo straw which grow wild in Palawan and commonly used as fences to enclose yards.

A report from Business World that various tourism sites in Palawan are advocating the use of bamboo straw. Further, the Lio Tourism Estate, in northern Palawan, made bamboo straw as gifts to visitors.

Apart from straws, report also stated that plastic bottles were also banned in the neighboring sitios of El Nido municipality. This followed the implementation in December 2018 of an ordinance banning single-use and other plastics.
