DoT to Turn MIMAROPA as World-Class Tourist Attraction

Region eyed as tourist attraction

Business World reported that Department of Tourism(DoT) eyed Region 4-B or the MIMAROPA in turning into world-class tourist attraction by additional flights and water routes.

Based on the report from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) contribution of the tourism industry in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) accounted at 12.7 percent in 2018.

MIMAROPA’s most tourist attraction according to Trip Advisor (https://www.tripadvisor.com.ph/Attractions-g2360840-Activities-Mimaropa.html): First, is the Nacpan beach.  At the second spot is the well-known Underground river of Puerto Princesa. Followed by Kayangan Lake in Coron,  Small Lagoon in El Nido, and the Big Lagoon still in Palawan.

At present, the Philippine Airlines(PAL) and the other four airlines, and the five shipping firms are complying requirements for accreditation.

As cited in the report from Business World,  transport services are considered ‘primary tourism establishments’ that need accreditation, pursuant to Republic Act 9593 or Tourism Act of 2009,” DoT said in a statement on Saturday.

Accordingly,  AirAsia Inc., Air Juan Aviation Inc (Air Juan), AirSWIFT Transport Inc., Magnum Air Inc. (Skyjet), 2Go Group Inc., Montenegro Shipping Lines Inc., Navios Shipping Lines Inc., Starhorse Shipping Lines Inc., and Starlite Ferries Inc. were the companies that were cited during the said meeting.

Moreover, DoT Mimaropa Director Danilo B. Intong  imparted that “they are elated as they share the renewed optimism over the continued growth of (the) tourism industry, which proves to be a key economic driver that can help uplift the lives of the poor in the countryside.”
