Conglomerate Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. trained 35 farmers in Marawi which aimed to boost corn production and encouraged them to become agripreneurs.
“Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Cebu-based Aboitiz conglomerate, and its food unit Pilmico Foods Corp. provided session regarding covered land preparation for crop utilization, crop management and yield improvement for corn production,”Philstar reported.
Respectively, Aboitiz group helped the Iligan City’s Hindang Banana Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative (MPC) to become entrepreneurs through yellow corn production project. The said project aims to yield 33 metric tons of yellow corn.
Hindang MPC chairperson Larry Coracol stated in the report of Philstar that they look forward to become yellow corn supplier of Philmico.
Based on the statement of Maribeth Marasigan, Aboitiz Foundation first vice president and chief operating officer, they hope that the outcome of the training will lead to sustainable farming and agripreneurship of the farmers.
“The project will monitor the production volume and quality based on the requirements of Pilmico,” report stated.
Plus, the project can entice external experts to help the technicians to look over the appropriate technology transfer.
Further, Aboitiz group carries out training and sessions, provides farm inputs to the farmers.
For future prospect, the group aims to organize a separate training that will strengthen organization management of cooperatives.
