The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Caraga will soon provide livelihood programs for the Indigenous People (IPs) in the region.

Regional directors from Regions 9, 10, 11, 12 and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) participated the  Mindanao-wide Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran para sa Kababayang Katutubo (4Ks) program orientation. The event was organized by Region 13 which aims to focus on providing livelihood programs in the IP communities.

The said implementation is the immediate response of the DA in Caraga to the mandate of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in helping the IP communities.

“The gathering aims to prepare technical personnel tasked to implement the program in their respective areas, and that DA-13 targets the six major tribes in Caraga to benefit from the program,” Regional Technical Director Nicandro Navia, the focal person for the 4Ks program.

Moreover, Navia mentioned the presence of the representatives from the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) during the two-day orientation.

In line with the implementation of the livelihood programs for IPs,  personnel on the technical procedures are also being equipped during the orientation. Respectively, IPs identify the programs and services they need for their livelihood.

Navia stated that the full implementation of the program will be next year.

“Feasibility studies will also be conducted by validating teams composed of technical persons from the DA and NCIP to determine the feasibility of identified projects and services, ” Navia said.

“Regional Executive Director Abel James I. Monteagudo from DA-13 Information Office identified the program as the agency’s direct intervention to address the needs of the IP communities through livelihood and food production programs,” Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are the agencies that are involved in the 4Ks Program.
