To combat the effects of COVID-19, Local government unit (LGU) in Baguio will distribute vegetable seeds as relief goods to residents.
Moreover, vegetable seeds will be given to the residents of Los Baños, Laguna and Baguio City.
Based on the Facebook post of Agricultural Services Division of the Baguio City Veterinary Office, the repacked seeds contain okra, sitaw, eggplant, and even peas and spinach.
Respectively, the seeds will be planted to enable residents, who are under the enhanced community quarantine, attain a survival garden.
For those who are interested, you may send your details to the local Office of the Municipal Agriculturist. The said office will coordinate to the baranggays to deliver on your doorsteps.
People who are situated in Los Baños are encouraged to set-up their own garden to ensure food security.
“The seed and seedling distribution is being enhanced to make the townspeople self-sufficient and food-secure in the coming weeks,” Municipal agriculturist Cheryll T. Laviña-Gonzales said.
She explained that the seed distribution of the municipality is a regular program of the office.
With the ongoing enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary William Dar urged people to set-up their own urban gardening to secure food security and will have stable food at home.
The Secretary of DA affirmed the public not to panic because there are enough supply for the Filipinos for several months.
Apart from Baguio, the government of Cabuyao City launched its Harvest on the Go program, the produce of the farmers will be bought by the government and distribute to the residents.
