The Mayor of Lapu-Lapu City, Mayor Junard Chan, wants to declare the famous rapper Ez Mil as “persona non grata” in Lapu-Lapu City, saying that the rapper falsely depicted Lapu-Lapu’s death on his latest hit song “Panalo” [Ez Mil’s “Panalo” live performance on Wish 107.5 hits 10M Views in 3 days].
Mayor Chan said in an interview on Monday, February 8, 2021, “This is a big insult to us Oponganons. He mocked the person that we consider a hero”.
Oponganons is the term used by residents of Lapu-Lapu City.
Chan was referring to the line on Ez Mil’s song, “Nanalo na ako nung una pa pinugutan si Lapu sa Mactan”.
The mayor said that the people of Lapu-Lapu City were angered, since the 500th-anniversary celebration of the victory at Mactan will be on the April 27th this year.
Mayor Chan added, “He doesn’t recognize Lapu-Lapu as a hero, he should have not created a song that will irk the people. He should not be looked up to by the youth,”
Mayor Chan is also looking into legal charges against the Ez Mill.
In a video interview, Ez Mil apologized for the lyrics and said it was there for rhyming and for the song to be talked about.
