Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Francisco Diaz says she is now ready to take home the Olympic gold.
Diaz is currently training in Malaysia. The 30-year-old silver medalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics spends most of her time in Malaysia ever since February of 2020. Of course, it’s due to the COVID-19 pandemic that she cannot go home to the Philippines. Nonetheless, her plans and goals remain intact to become the first Olympic gold medalist from the Republic of the Philippines.
“I’m ready,” Diaz started.
She cannot specifically claim to what percentage it is.
” But I’m there — my mind is there, my heart is there, physically it’s there,” Hidilyn Diaz confessed to AFP as she went on her break from the many hours of training for her final preparations in the upcoming but possibly last, Olympics.
Without any doubt, Diaz is among the honorary sporting heroes alongside the boxing champion and icon Manny Pacquaio. It was indeed an astounding feat to win the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
Diaz also added more prestige to her name as she acquired the gold medal at the Asian Games held in Indonesia. She also won in December 2019 for the South East Asian Games held in the Philippines.
Even with the changes caused due to the pandemic, Diaz is firm with her progression and aims to take the gold medal in the coming Tokyo Olympics happening in a few months.
