The Brokenshire College Toril Robo Aces from Davao City has once again made its mark in the International Robothon 2023 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The team, consisting of students from different levels, brought home multiple awards, adding to their already impressive track record.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Eduspec Sdn. Bhd collaborated to organize the 18th International Robothon Competition, held on March 26, 2023. With the sponsorship of 5T3M and support from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, the competition aims to nurture young minds to develop practical solutions using robotics.
The half-day marathon, held at UTM’s Kuala Lumpur campus, witnessed the participation of 239 students aged 6 to 18 from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The theme for the event, “Second Earth,” aptly captures the essence of the competition where participants were to design, build, and program robots capable of performing various human tasks in outer space simulations.
Following their recent win in the 8th Philippine Robothon where they were crowned overall champions, BCT Robo Aces secured the First Runner-Up spot in the VEX IQ Veterans Category. The team, which included elementary pupils Al Emmanuelle Diestro, Fiona Lorraine Nuyad, and Marie Raven Deguma, showcased their exceptional skills in the competition.
The Junior High School team composed of DK Rophe Paniamogan and Shaun Gabriel Barez also made their mark in the competition by emerging as Second Runner-Up in the VEX IQ Expert Category. Meanwhile, the Senior High School team consisting of Bianca Marie Djozel Salazar, Aaron Daniel Alabata, and Joshua Carl Sumilhig bagged the Distinction Award in the same category.
The teams underwent extensive training and instructions from BCT's in-house robotics teacher and coach Harold Verbal.
BCT is one of the few private educational institutions in the Philippines that offer robotics education as an add-on feature to their standard curriculum.
This is not the first time that BCT has participated in an international competition, as they made their successful debut in 2019, sealing their first championship. With their continued success, BCT Robo Aces have cemented their position as one of the leading robotics teams in the Philippines.
