PH Women’s National Badminton Team Secures Bronze Medal at Southeast Asian Games

The Philippine women’s national badminton team secured a bronze medal at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games held in Cambodia. The team advanced to the semifinals by defeating Malaysia 3-0. This marks the first time since the 2015 Games in Singapore that the Philippines secured a medal in badminton.

Bianca Carlos secured the semifinals berth for the Philippines with a 21-16, 21-18 win over 18-year-old Siri Nurshuhaini in the second singles match. Mika De Guzman also won her match against Tan Zhing Yi in a close 24-22, 21-18 decision to give the Filipinas their first point. The duo of Thea Pomar and Alyssa Leonardo sealed the deal with a win over Low Yeen Yuan and Valeree Siow with a score of 22-20, 19-21, 24-22.

On the other hand, the men’s team did not have a good day. Singapore’s Hee Yong Kai Terry and Nge Joo Jie eliminated Solomon Padiz Jr. and Julius Villabrille from medal contention with a score of 13-21, 21-19, 21-18. The men’s team already had a bleak chance of winning a medal when Loh Kean Yew swept Jewel Angelo Albo with a score of 21-14, 21-13.

This win is a significant achievement for the Philippine women’s national badminton team. It shows the team’s dedication to their sport and how their hard work has paid off. The team’s success can be attributed to the players’ discipline and training, as well as the coaching staff’s guidance and support.
