PPop Generation, a girl group that debuted in 2019 with a staggering 45 members and three separate teams, has undergone a transformation in response to the pandemic. The group, now known as Ppop Gen, has been reduced to a more manageable size of seven members. The aim of this downsizing was to create a tighter and more cohesive unit.
The current lineup of Ppop Gen consists of Gabh as the leader and main vocalist, Sofia as the center and main dancer, Sarah as the face and sub-rapper, Madz as the lead vocalist and main rapper, Princess as the visual member, Char as the sub-vocalist, and Angela as the visuals and lead rapper. Geleen Eugenio, the group’s mentor and creative director, believes that this new configuration perfectly embodies the youthful energy she had initially envisioned. The remaining performers, affectionately referred to as the “P-pop Lucky 7,” are experiencing a mix of happiness, luck, and nervousness as the spotlight now shines firmly on them.
Transitioning from Ppop Generation to Ppop Gen was not an easy process, as many members had to leave the group. “We had to make a lot of adjustments,” explained Gabh during a recent press conference. Madz also reflected on the changes, stating, “Now that we’re only seven, I believe that we’re stronger and more solid. I feel like it will be easier for us to shine because it will be easier for us to be recognized by people. Back when we were 45, it was hard for people to memorize our names.”
Since the reformation, Ppop Gen has released two singles. The first is “Prinsesa,” an empowering anthem for women, followed by the sultry midtempo dance track called “Hanggang Tingin Ka Lang,” which was released last month. Angela described the latter song as addressing the issue of people who overstep boundaries. “Some people may seem like they’re supporting you or admiring you as idols. But later on, you realize that they actually have different intentions,” added Gabh.
Despite their achievements, the members of Ppop Gen are aware that they still have much to learn and improve upon as artists. They embrace this daunting challenge with determination, aspiring to be known for their resilience. Sarah expressed this sentiment, stating, “We want to be known for our resilience.” Char looks forward to working together with her bandmates to develop their skills and address their weaknesses. “This is an opportunity for us to help each other,” she remarked.
As Ppop Gen continues their journey in the music industry, they are determined to make their mark through their music and unwavering determination. With a stronger and more cohesive unit, they hope to captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression.
