Chinese companies from Beijing and Guangdong consider to buy fruits from Mindanao. Chinese Consul-General Li Lin said that the two major firms eye in purchasing coconuts, durian, avocado, and others.

Based on the report from Sunstar, Chinese investors explained their plans in Mindanao during the Cacao Summit last August 24, 2019 with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary, William Dar.

“These are big companies in China. They are buyers. They discussed a wide range of tropical fruits and they are also interested on the quantity and quality of local products,” Lin stated in the report.

Apart from buying fruits from Mindanao, the investors also want to provide future investments in agriculture production in some areas.

With the interests shown by investors,  Department of Agriculture (DA)-Davao director Ricardo Oñate said that Davao City is preparing for increasing demands for agricultural products.

“The interest of these investors is an opening for our market in China for durian, avocado and marang. However, we are still looking for ways on how to ship marang without ruining its quality”, he said in the report.

He mentioned in the report that Davao City can supply enough production for the increasing demand because of the current programs that ensure to increase farmers’ productivity and quality of produce. One of Davao City’s program is  Durian 500, wherein Durian production should obtain at least 500 hectares in three years in Baguio District.

The regional director also expressed that in terms of export, quality and quantity of produce should be together.
