Brutal Death of a Filipino in Canada

The Filipino community of New Westminster in Canada is extremely devastated as they mourn the brutal death of a fellow Filipino, Maria Cecilia Loreto.

Mycel or Maricel, the 49-year-old, a lively mother worked untiringly for her family ever since she arrived in Vancouver 10 years ago. According to a very close Filipino friend Salve Dayao.

The body of Loreto was found nearby a children’s playground within Burnaby.

Carlo Tobias, 21, and a 15-year-old remains unnamed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act are the primary suspects. These two suspects for the crime and charged legally with first-degree murder.

Police say the victim knew the suspects.

The Burnaby Firehall received a report regarding a grass fire a few meters from the children’s playground of Greentree Village Park.

From the autopsy, indications that Loreto was already dead on March 17 in her New Westminster home. After then was brought to the park on March 18, 2021.

Sexual interference?

Records show that 21-year-old, Carlo Tobias, is accused of sexual interference compromising a minor. This is within the timeline of November 2020, the BC Prosecution Service confirms.

Tobias is set to appear in court again on April 28, 2021. On the other hand, the minor is scheduled for April 12.
