Rock queen Sampaguita, known for her hit song “Bonggahan,” continues to rock the music scene more than four decades later. She is set to perform in a star-studded vintage show called “Tugtugan Sitenta” at The Theater at Solaire on May 31. Expressing her excitement, Sampaguita shared her happiness about being part of a show alongside artists whose songs remain unparalleled.

Among her fellow performers are Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo from APO, Nonoy Tan and Magtoto from Wadab, Joey Abando from Boyfriends, rock legend Mike Hanopol, Mon Espia from Labuyo, Pete Gatela, Carlos Parsons, Yujin Baydal from Hagibis, and Male Rigor and Monet Gaskell from VST & Company.
Sampaguita humorously remarked, “Somehow I have always stood out even in the field of rock, that’s why I’m called Sampaguita!” Her rise to fame in the mid-’70s as a former model was marked by the release of chart-topping hits like “Bonggahan,” “Tao,” “Sa Diyos Laman,” “Laguna,” and “Nosi Ba Lasi.” This era, known as the Golden Age of OPM (Original Pilipino Music), is shared by her fellow performers in “Tugtugan Sitenta.”
“Some of us in the group are already in our 70s, but we still have it! We keep on going! Bongga is the only way to go, right? Just like in my song, always give it your all!” Sampaguita exclaimed, emphasizing their enduring passion for music. Despite facing health challenges, she has overcome them and emerged stronger on stage.
Sampaguita expressed gratitude to her friends, including veteran concert promoter Mark Manalang and the Zonta Club of Makati Ayala, for keeping her current and relevant even in the 2020s. She acknowledged her appreciation for still being alive and having the opportunity to bring joy to people through her music. Additionally, she thanked her dedicated fans for their unwavering support throughout the years.
